Contemplating

I've run across a couple of things on Craigslist and eBay that I've got my eye on. Here's the Craig find:
I have long coveted the Eames Management chair. Brand new these chairs top $1K. The guy on Craiglist is selling his vintage one for $125. I would have to go check it out, but supposedly it's the real deal and not a knock-off. Of course, it's a turquoise/teal fabric and not the black leather I'd envisioned . . .

Maybe I've just been watching too much Mad Men? Who else is so sad that Sunday is the season finale?!!
A pensive Don Draper in his Eames Management Chair thinking,
"Why did Kathy have to marry that Matt guy and ruin my life?"

The other find? Call me crazy, but I really like this old brass door knocker on eBay.
I'm really wanting to paint my front door Martha Stewart's Wrought Iron, which is a very dark gray-blue-black, and install a unique brass door knocker. This hand is a little creepy, a little Victorian (very not me), but it speaks to me on some level. The auction is up in about an hour. I'll let you know what happens.

Lastly, this is not on eBay or Craigslist, but Kayce Hughes is giving away one of her fabulous wooden bead necklaces on her blog. Just leave a comment for a chance to win the giveaway!
Happy Monday!

Update: I won the door knocker on eBay! Now, I just need to paint my front door. My father-in-law, also known as Mr. Fix-It, is coming to visit this weekend. Hmmm.

Happy Day

With the historic flood that hit Nashville over the weekend, I never thought today would be a happy day, but I was wrong. For a couple of hours this morning, I got the opportunity to help someone in need. Someone I didn't even know. I couldn't do much in the short time I had - just helped haul out some soaked carpet. But it truly puts things in perspective. People's entire lives were sitting out on the curb. Makes you count your blessings.

Then when I got home, some mail arrived that made me smile . . .
This sweet little birthday card - complete with a candle necklace - from Anthropologie offering me 15% off any purchase in May (my birthday's at the end of the month). Isn't it cute?

And this skirt that I ordered from Sevier Skirts arrived too . . .
just in time for me to wear to my son's pre-school Mother's Day Tea tomorrow!

Then, out of the blue, my husband came home with these . . .
just because he knows I love peonies and that they're blooming now. They are beautiful and smell wonderful. Thanks, honey!

I am very lucky indeed.

Sidenote: If you are interested in spiffing up your (or your child's) wardrobe this spring and helping out Nashville at the same time, check out Kayce Hughes blog/store. She's donating 50% of all sales made over the next week to the American Red Cross for flood relief efforts in Nashville.

Style Crush

Have you heard of Kayce Hughes?
Well, if you haven't, you should get to know her.

Now is the perfect time since the home she shares with her husband and SEVEN children is featured in the April issue of Country Living.

Kayce is the designer behind the adorable children's clothing line Pears and Bears and the simple and chic Kayce Hughes line for women. Her designs are fresh, vintage-inspired pieces that I absolutely love. And she lives and works in my neck of the woods . . . Nashville.

So, imagine my surprise while perusing the magazine aisle at the grocery store to run across her home in the pages of this month's Country Living (I've started looking at this publication more and more since the demise of some of my favorites). I've actually been to her house, not in it exactly, but in the garage/basement where she used to hold her warehouse sales for Pears and Bears. My daughter had several P&B dresses growing up especially during her preschool years.

Love the chair. And the guitar. Oh, and the old radio and sewing machine. You get the point.

Her house does not disappoint. It is everything you might expect from someone who used to work at Ralph Lauren (and whose aunt is Lily Pulitzer, by the way) . . . very well-edited with great vintage touches and lots of personality.

I think my parents have the same side table. I need to swipe it and paint it high-gloss green immediately.

Isn't this girls' room adorable? I'm sure Goldilocks wouldn't be able to choose between these three beds.

While her house is amazing, just look at her beautiful family. A husband, seven kids and two dogs. How does she do it? And she didn't even cheat by having multiples (like the Sixx Design clan . . . just kidding. I'm waiting to do a post on them once their reality show hits Bravo in April).

Having met her a couple of times at her clothing shows, I can honestly say, she's just as nice as she looks. Just like the girl next door . . . who has a successful career, beautiful home and great big family.

Yes, I've got a bit of a style crush on her. Who are you crushing on lately?
