Have a Ball With Small (spaces) BEFORE AND AFTER

Small spaces should multi-task. They should pack a lot of punch and be ready to be used for lots of different purposes. A client asked me to transform a former nursery in her wonderfully eclectic house into: a reading nook, study space, guest room. That's a big job for a tiny room... can you believe how it turned out???

In it's former life, it was a nursery. This cracks me up because years ago, Ann painted a tree on our soon to be reading nook.

It eventually evolved from a nursery (youngest is 6) to a 

catch-all room...

Where the big kids could do their homework and unused books, bedding, items could go to die. Until...

 With a custom headboard, we turned the bed for guest overflow into a day bed. 

 A warm cozy spot that makes you want to curl up with a good book or slip away for a nap.

 Pillows are mixed with Target Nate Burkus finds and the cardigans are from Homegoods. 

 The custom bolsters were the jumping off point for the entire room. 

The Regina Andrew sconces add light to this nook and a rustic element that contrasts with the modern headboard. 

 I switched out their commercial looking office chair for a warm gray leather one and had the built-ins painted in a glossy Jamestown blue. 

 Adding updated lighting and storage cleaned up the bookcase so clutter can be tucked away. 

 We kept the a gift from her father - a special memory of UNC champions. The drapes are a Premier Prints fabric and add a fun pop of color. 

 A light kit converted a drum to a funky overhead light fixture. 

 I took the furniture out of the small entry and added shelves for displaying photos and keepsakes. I tied in the rustic meets modern vibe with these Homegoods shelves and dressed them with modern elements.
