Inspiration 2 hours away...

Hooper and I always talk about taking  day trips. Just a little jaunt (2 hours away max) to check out shops and things we hear about. This is great in theory but sometimes hard to execute. But... yesterday, we did it. After coordinating 2 grandmothers for pick up, a sitter that ended up with 7 kids, and an uncle to grab a certain 13 year old boy from detention (it's real life around here)...We hit the road! 
We hopped on our private jet drove to Raleigh and  checked out a few places... 
By accident we found 'The Find'. This shop is open very limited hours but lucky for us the owner had popped in and let us look around. We could have filled a truck with her eclectic, vintage scores. Gold dragons anyone?

Our next stop was the coolest "shop" ever... Can you guess where it is???

 hello??? bamboo, lacquer, chartreuse??? yes, please!

 Did you figure it out?... a garage! Yup! How smart is that? This savvy shopper styles her finds in her garage and opens once a week to her loyal followers and friends. Reminded us of our barn sale and got us thinking we might need to have another one soon.

These finials could dress up any lamp-  the top ones scream Hooper, while I'd opt for the stones...

This piece came home with me... swoon... I might sell it, but for now, it is so happy next to my sofa. However, I could be convinced otherwise. Anyone have to have it???

I have 15 pieces of art on the walls in my living room alone. Do you think that is too much? I wasn't feeling so hot on Friday so I spent the day on my sofa watching Netflix. I couldn't help but count the pictures. Kind of like when you were in elementary school and you knew how many ceiling tiles were in your classroom. (anyone?) Should I mention I have a gallery wall in my living room with photos? Yeah, didn't count that. Just art alone... Seems to work in other peoples spaces.Ooooh... I am diggin this room. Remember the Hague blue room Hooper did here? This color really works as a backdrop to this mix as well. I am also liking the blue stripe sofa. I have a weakness for ticking. So simple in such a sophisticated space.

 This is more the vibe of my LR. Small art groupings above, well...everything really.

 Isn't that the cutest little girl ever holding that vintage camera!  Wouldn't it be fun to be a stylist for a day and get these shots, people and all....probably helps that the room is PERFECT!!!

 The seaside art is the only thing that makes this room special. One of my favorite pieces was a $9 junk shop sailing picture find. It's in my LR now. I also have a weakness for paint by  numbers. I passed up on a paint by numbers of the last supper one time and I so regret it! It had a great vintage, boho, random vibe that would of been perfect in my dining room. (I only have 8 pieces of art in there! -I need to amp it up a little bit!)

How many pieces of art do you have in your LR? Are you less is more? Is 15 too many? Please share...

Also, did anyone check out our artist pick on EBay? Isn't he great? I'm telling ya... get it while you can still afford it. (if he's your taste!) I have bought a lot of art on EBay and it always goes far beyond my budget pretty quickly when I find someone I like.

I'm not begging (well I kind of am, but as much as we love your emails in response to our post, we also love and appreciate your comments on the blog for others to see and share!)

Feeling a little BoHo...

To say my house is eclectic is an understatement.  You all know my passion for art. I can't seem to say no if a painting or piece of art is calling out to me. And believe me, they do, but that's another story for another day (and a professional with an hour or so to spare).  Anyhoo, I just keep adding to my walls. That's one way to achieve that eclectic/ bohemian vibe. I was recently talking to a friend that said she needed a little "boho"  in her space. She has a beautiful home with great rugs, colors, and furniture and it is truly lacking nothing as is, but I get it. We all like those few things that are unexpected, exotic or tell a story even if no one else gets it.  A bohemian vibe... John Robshaw is a favorite designer of mine. He definitely does bohemian, exotic, eclectic well. (Helps that he travels the globe!) This is his apartment: 

 Floor to ceiling art! Hello!!! Looks like he just adds a new nail and a piece of art also!  Hmmm... patchwork chair? Speaking my language!

I have my own eclectic thing going in my own house... (you say clutter, I say eclectic)

BUT... I spy with my little eye... My new Kantha throw that I got at HomeGoods for $40. SCORE!

One of these bad boys tossed over the back of a sofa or chair is a great way to mix it up.

 Check out Etsy for one if HG is out!! There's lots of things out there to boho your space! 

I love these Ikea pillows and for the price?!?! You can't afford NOT to own them!

 Also remember One Kings Lane and Joss & Main for unique finds!

 Bone frames usually do the trick and the bench could go glam or Glob trotter! (Someone get this bench, it's on OKL today!)

Emily Henderson (Em) is another designer that does this look well...

The sofa??? The ikat on the chair?? ...sigh...

Whew....

Saturday night we had our first Birds of a Feather bring the blog to life party! 

We can not wait to show you our real pictures! (which means Hooper and I did not take them).  But,  for now here are a few 'before all our peeps arrived photos!' Before you go any further please know... we are exhausted. DO NOT JUDGE my grammar, spelling, or have any expectations beyond average pics. Thanks! Enjoy!

This is how it all went down... We brought furniture, accessories, art etc... from our 2 homes to style this big ol' empty house. We also brought in things from our sponsors stores: Maran Home, Home Goods & World Market. We each styled a room individually then did the other areas together. The goal was to showcase our very different styles and to showcase our work when we mix our styles!

Hooper's Space: The Foyer

Hooper mixed insanely great fabrics and layered on color, texture and pattern. The result is a glam space topped off with a bit of whimsy! 

The silk wallpaper was existing (swoon) and added to the beautiful final product!

 Opposite the seating area was a spot for a console. Hooper used my junk shop find -a light pink , Miami Vice console as an entry piece. The mirror above was junk shop find of her own and the 2 pieces together cost about $110. (good junk shop finds!) lacquer, ghost (bet you didn't see the chair to the left!), and a stunning arrangement makes this room scream Hooper!

Ann's Space: The Den

My style is a bit more casual and organic. I layered on the art as well as fabrics and patterns. The arc sconce is a FAVE from Maran Home and the chrome gives the room a cool, mod vibe. There is little rhyme or reason to how the art is hung. I wanted it to look like you could keep adding pieces through the years as you find art you love.

We both used hides in our rooms. Hooper' used metallic zebra and I used Bessie (shocker). 

I spy with my little eye patchwork chairs from London. We each own one. Reunited and it feels so good....

My Scrapyard "S" is another example of using what you love! See the stag??? Swoon again! That's a Maran Home borrow and for sale!

Spaces we did together: Dining room

I can't wait to show you a close up of this average chandelier. Wait til you see what's hanging from it that Hooper made. The room is a mix of us. The barn wood table is casual yet chic paired with the ghost and bamboo chairs. The wall art cost $50! Yup- those are metal trays from the dollar tree. Don't bother trying to get any- we bought 50... not sure what's left! 

Spaces we did together: The Main Room

  This room housed food, a bar, and additional spots if you cared to sit... 

 We had to get creative with the lighting so we placed lamp arrangements in 3's around the room. 

 The Bar! Love the 60's Hollywood regency vibe the table, pendant and screen give off! This was a popular spot! 

The GRAND mantle was a complete meshing of ideas and objects... casual yet elegant!
